Laser Surgery in Urology

Mr Haider Syed is the clinical lead for the use of laser technology in urology.

He has set up a pioneering service at Little Aston Hospital, supported by a dedicated team.

You must schedule a private urology appointment if you experience signs and symptoms like blood in your urine, pain when urinating, difficulty urinating, urinary incontinence, or urinary tract infections.

The following conditions are treated using laser technology:

  • Kidney stones. Kidney and ureteric stones are treated using a Holmium Yag laser. This allows safe and effective fragmentation of any stone present anywhere along the urinary tract.
  • Prostate enlargement. Green Light Laser Prostatectomy is used to evaporate the prostatic tissue to create a channel for better flow. This is a safe and effective treatment with minimal bleeding and early discharge from the hospital.
  • Laser treatment of small superficial bladder tumours under local anaesthesia through a flexible scope. Mr Syed is an expert in laser treatment of recurrent bladder cancer. He has the longest prospective study over 6 years of treatment of these patients: excellent local cancer control and 100% patient satisfaction.
  • Laser treatment of urethral stricture or bladder neck stenosis. Holmium laser is also used to open up the water pipe’s narrow strictures (urethra or bladder neck area).
