Q I would like a consultation who do I contact?

Q Will there be a charge for the consultation?

A. There is a charge of £250 for an initial consultation. If you have private medical insurance the invoice will go to your insurance company. If you are self-funding you will be asked to pay this on leaving the hospital at the front reception desk. The outpatient department will ask you for credit card details but these are not used for consultant charges.

Q. I have had a consultation and wish to book surgery, who do I contact?

A. Contact Mr. Syed’s medical secretary, Melanie Bryant at Spire Little Aston Hospital who will discuss a date for your surgery and make the appropriate arrangements.

Q. What happens once I have booked surgery?

A. You will receive confirmation of your surgery from the In-Patient Bookings Office. If you are not privately insured you will be sent costing of the operation and asked to pay shortly before your admission date. The hospital will also send you an admission pack before your surgery.

Q. What precautions should I take before surgery?

A. Mr. Syed will explain the surgical procedure and give appropriate advice regarding the precautions.

Q. Will I require a pre-operative assessment?

A. You will be seen by a pre-op assessment nurse who will do some baseline urine and blood tests and you may require a chest X-ray or ECG depending on your medical condition age. If you take any blood thinning tablets e.g. Aspirin, Clopidogrel or Warfarin you may require to stop these before surgery to avoid any bleeding during operation.

Q. Should I stop eating and drinking?

A. Before a general anaesthetic procedure you will need to stop eating and drinking at midnight the night before.

Q. Would I see the consultant again before surgery?

A. Yes, Mr. Syed will see you prior to surgery and explain details of the operation.

Q. Would I see the consultant again after surgery ?

A. Post- surgery, Mr. Syed will explain details of the surgery carried out and post-operative precautions advised. This may require a short course of antibiotics to avoid urinary infection.

Q. To whom do I make payment for my surgery?

A. If you have private medical insurance the hospital and your surgeon will invoice your insurance company. If you are self-funding the hospital will write to you confirming costs and details of how and when to make payment. This can be in the form of a cheque, cash or a credit card.
